Finally, I can say a Happy New Year! That welcome message had been saved up pending the release of the updated Igbo language-learning app for kids, Igbo101; available on Android, iPhone and iPad. Delivering on the Igbo101 update was one of the goals I highlighted during my 2016 New Year’s message. Thankfully, it’s out now and you can get all the links here:

Long overdue, the update was initially scheduled for release before Christmas of last year; sorry about that. The team got caught up in the holiday period and we couldn’t forgo the all-important vetting process with our real world Onyekuzi (teacher).
So, briefly, let’s look at Igbo101 2.0. First, I’ll give an overview of the app and next, I’ll answer some likely questions regarding the app. In case you are wondering what to do with the previous version or how to unlock a purchase you previously made, scroll down to the FAQ section below.
I’m calling the updated Igbo101, “Igbo101 2.0” to differentiate it from the previous version in this piece. In actual sense, the app’s name on the App stores remain: Google Play – Igbo101 ; Apple Store (iPad) – Igbo101; Apple Store (iPhone) – Igbo101 for iPhone
Overview of Igbo101 2.0
Igbo101 is an Igbo language-learning app for kids. The updated version 2.0 comes in an adventure quest to acquire a piece of land defined as Ala (It means land in Igbo language). To that end, users have to play through over a dozen lessons and games spread across 4 levels.
Igbo101 is set in 4 levels denoted as Kingdoms with about 16 topics spread across the levels. Each topic has a companion game tied to it. A user is expected to learn each lesson to acquire the gift of Amamiihe, which means Wisdom or Knowledge in Igbo. With acquired knowledge, a user can then proceed to play games to test his/her skills and earn points. Each gameplay ends with the acquisition of stars. 5 Stars are required in each to unlock special Gallery items. These Gallery items represent different Igbo cultural symbols and information to further deepen the user’s knowledge about Igbo Culture.
The updated Igbo101 app offers users various benefits including:
- Immersive and interactive learning via colorful graphics, text, voice and sounds
- Performance indicators through the games
- Share functionalities for adult beginners who use it
- Fun and engaging learning experience
